Default My Mom's in the hospital for the night

Strange feeling, knowing she's there. Backstory...she had bloodwork done as part of her yearly physical today. Her blood pressure was pretty low I guess. She was driving back to work and felt a little woosie. Next thing she knew she saw herself crossing the yellow line. She crashed into some trees...THANK GOD at slow enough speed the airbags didn't even deploy. Also, THANK GOD no other cars were oncoming. The ambulance came and took her to the hospital and they decided to do some tests and keep her for the night to hopefully figure out WTF is going on. I'm just pretty numb right now. I don't touch the hard stuff that often, but tonight I had a couple of fingers of the bottle of Bushmills Black I bought about 2 years ago.

Sidenote: I called the police department's non-emergency line to find out where her car was towed to. The guy who took the call asked me how she was doing. When I called the towing company who has her car, the guy's first comment was, "How's she doing?" Humanity STILL has some kind of chance, I swear.

Thanks man. Just to be clear, she suffered NO injuries from the crash. The sticking point is why the F was her blood pressure so low. My dad said they were pumping a lot of saline into her too, so maybe she was dehydrated too. I don't know what kinds of things low BP are a symptom of, but I'm not getting ahead of myself yet.

Coulda been a lot worse. Hope she comes thru OK.

My mother has low blood pressure issues as well although I'm not up to speed on the causes or seriousness.

After all, 12 MP is excessive, even in my view. The average person doesn't even need 8 unless they plan on vinyl wrapping their house with a family portrait.

We'll add her to our prayer list. We're still praying for your wife. Is she recovered fully?

Thanks guys. No new news to report. She's still waiting to see some certain doctor. Her potassium levels are low and her BP is still a bit low. I didn't know this (my wife did) but her potassium levels were low at one point this past Winter. She didn't like the medication they put her on so she instead started eating more healthy stuff (she's already a pretty healthy person) instead. I guess it worked for a while but for whatever reason it affected her badly yesterday.

Jeff -Thanks you both. She's feeling better everyday. She has no more internal pain except for some nagging abdominal muscle soreness, but her incisions give her some pain every now and again. I remember as the incisions healed from my knee surgery I had a lot of anxiety that I was going to tear them open, and I think she's going through the same thing. So she's a bit apprehensive about lifting things, carrying the baby, placing the baby carrier into the car, etc. Understandable, but it's very taxing on me....it's been almost like I'm a single parent for the last 3+ weeks and it's gotten annoying.

Generally, low blood pressure has three causes. They are low blood volume, excessive vasodilation, and weak pump. Of course, all three of those are going to be secondary to the underlying cause.

I know you're a good guy Sean but your wife gave you three beautiful and healthy kids and you're bitching about how the toll on her body is affecting you? Come on man, I know you're a better person than that.

Thanks Jeff. Don't get me wrong Colin, it's not like that. It's just annoying. I'm talking like not getting up from her laptop to give the baby back her doll that she naps with (it falls out of her swing and then she cries) or not feeding her...things that certainly don't cause her pain, but she just seems to have gotten used to me automatically doing lately.

They sent my mom home this afternoon and is feeling fine. I still don't know many details but they are changing the medication she was on.

Scary. Glad they are both doing fairly well.
A lot of parents tell me I'll never know the joys of having kids and I tell them they will never know the joys of not having kids.
